What's on this week
If your child still has a library book at home please return it by Tuesday. We may visit the library in these last weeks but no books will be going home as there is a stocktake going on.
Next week on the 9th of December we will be having an end of year day at Kelly Yuill's place. Thanks so much Kelly. We can walk there as it is only a few houses down. Your child will need togs, towel, mufti clothes. I have to have the day confirmed with management and once that has been done I will be sending a letter home t let you know further arrangements. It would be great to see as many families as can make it for the day or part of the day
Student Led Conferences - Monday 3:15 - 7:00. There is still time to make bookings. Well done and thank you to those who have already made bookings. To book go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz Code 6ARLU
Please remember these are not parent/teacher interviews. I will not be able to discuss individual children on this occasion. The idea is that the children discuss their learning with you and show off some of the great work they have done.
I sent home a parent questionnaire last Friday to help with questions to ask your child.
*what have you been learning to do (when talking about reading, writing and maths).
* is there something they would like to do better?
* What are they most proud of / enjoy about learning?
*How can we help you at home?
On the night you will see a sign in sheet. Could you please sign this before your conference.
You will also receive:
• A letter template so you can write to your child. This can be completed on the night or you may take it home to complete. Please return it to school so we can share the letter to the class, if your child wishes.
• Two stars and a wish sheet to complete, on the night or at home. The wish is like a goal that you would like to see your child work towards. Please return this to school as well as this will be placed in your child’s portfolio.
I hope you enjoy it. The children have worked very hard this year and I am very proud of their attitude and progress.
Religious Education
We will be carrying out a few assessments this week for our portfolios and then we will begin our final RE strand - Advent - which means 'coming'.. This is the four weeks leading up to Christmas. We talk about how Mary and Joseph prepared for the birth of Jesus.
Reading
I am working generally on a book over two days to help with fluency, confidence and strategies. I also will be testing those children who have been at school for a year so some days I will not be able to hear all reading groups. It is of value to read a book more than once as it helps with fluency and using strategies when stuck, So please keep them reading and telling you about the story and the characters. Can you please start thinking about how you will maintain your child's reading over the holidays so the momentum continues. The Public Library has some great readers available for all ages.
