We ended up having 6 cases of chickenpox last week, but most children were back at school by Friday.
No swimming for our class this week.
Assembly: We are meant to be hosting school assembly next Friday, but I will confirm this during the week.
Christmas party: Thornton's mum has kindly offered to host our end of year Christmas party at their motel. Thank you Natalee! More details are to follow.
Trip: We are looking at trying to squeeze a trip in before the end of the term, which will tie in with local legends. I will keep you posted!
Golden time: For golden time this week we will be having a treasure hunt around the school!
Maths: Squares and Circles: Adding on to 5, then 10. Taking away from 5, then 10.
It would also be helpful to practice reading numbers to 20 (for those who can't) and beyond, e.g on letter boxes, You Tube video clips, Sesame Street You Tube clips, etc.
Some children also need to practice the addition and subtraction facts for 5 and 10, in these coming weeks and over the holidays when possible.
Triangles: Adding tens.
Reading: We are focusing on fluency- Reading with a smooth voice with no mistakes, and being able to retell the story or answer questions to show we understand what we have read.
If you child gets stuck on a word at home, are they having another try, looking at the picture and putting all sounds together in the tricky word quickly. Are they checking that what they read makes sense, sounds and looks right? Stopping when they made an error and using the above strategies to correct them.
Are the older children reading past the tricky word, then re-reading the whole sentence to think about word what would make sense, putting the sounds together quickly in the tricky word.
There are only a couple of weeks left of instructional reading at school, so reading mileage ( that is, increasing the number of books they are reading), is very important. Please do your best to make sure that your child is reading today's and yesterdays books at home.
Writing: Recount writing- When did it happen? Who was there? What did you do? How was it?
Enjoy your week.
There are some children who have confusion between the letters 'b' and 'd'.
Below is a clip to help with this.
