Welcome parents to week 9. This week is Maori Language Week. The children will be greeting in Maori, counting to 20 in Maori and learning some Maori words for objects around the room.
Kirsten and I will be at an autism course Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. For golden time on Friday there will be an inter house quiz attended by the whole school. Spelling I will be doing a spelling test on Friday so please ensure you have worked through all the highlighted words and the last 5 ticked words in pencil. Thanks. Reading For the last two weeks can you ensure that you have talked to your child about the book sent home to read. They should be able to retell the important parts of the story. Mathematics The children who can count up to 100 are now starting to learn how to count back from 50. Anytime you can get your child to add or subtract by counting the numbers forward or back in their heads (without objects), is of great value. Have an awesome week.

Monday: We go to Hannah's Bay to the sustainable gardens. Please bring $2 if you have not paid for the bus. Tuesday: Library. Wednesday: We have class and family photos. Please make sure your child is dressed in the correct uniform. Girls will need to have their hair tied back with blue or red bands or ties. Thursday Cross Country. Please make sure your child comes with PE gear. They can run with bare feet or running shoes. Friday: For golden time we will be having a teddy bear's picnic. Could you please supply your child with a snack. If they do not have a teddy bear any bed toy would be fine. Thank you parents for looking at the clipo in week 6 about the two vowels that go walking. The children are very engaged when watching it. Next week we will be having a spelling test. Please revise all the highlightedf words and the last 5 ticked words, Have a great week Hi parents. I hope you all had a neat weekend. We have four glue sticks left in the class so could you please supply your child with a glue stick. Many thanks.
Your children are working hard. It is so great to see them arrive not being able to read and write and now being able to read and write independently. Thank you so much for your wonderful support. They are a neat group of children. What's on. Sorry parents. The trip to Hannah's bay is next Monday. Thursday: The author of Mr bear branches and Cloud Conumdrum will be visiting our class from 11:00 to 11:30. Parents are most welcome. Friday. I will be away Friday on a course. I will ask the reliever to continue with the making of kites for Golden Time. Can you supply your child with a plastic bag or anything they could make a kite out of. I will supply the string. If there is anything they want to bring to decorate the kite that is fine. The last few lessons of the Holy Spirit strand have looked at the Holy Spirit as being like the wind. We can't see the Holy Spirit but like the wind we can feel and see the Spirit working. I hope you have looked at the YouTube clip from last week. Thanks to all the parent who are working on their child's Essential spelling list at the front of the Home Book. Mathematics At times either in the car or in other ways can you get your child to count forwards to and backwards from 100. We are looking at adding and subtracting by imagining numbers in our head. For example, '7 + 3'. I can see 7 lollies and if I add 3 more I count "8, 9, 10". If I now have 10 lollies and mum eats 3 I imagine 10 and count back "9, 8, 7". Any time your child adds or subtracts at home is very important as it helps them see that we use number in everyday life. Have a great week! What's On Wednesday: Lunchtime disco. The children are asked to bring a gold coin donation. There will be no assembly this Friday. We are learning that when two vowels go walking the first one does the talking. Here is a great video clip to show this. Click on the words 'Read more' inTerm 2: Week 5 below and you will see what's on for this week.
No assembly this Friday as we have mass in the morning. I have put up a slide show with the children and their decorated cupcakes. You will find it in 'Student Blog' at the top of this page |
