It was lovely to see you all last week.
I hope you got the notice telling you of changes in how you make an appointment for a teacher interview. If there isn't a time that suits I am happy to make a time after school on other days.
I also hope you have enjoyed sharing your child's portfolio. I would like them back by the end of this week or the beginning of week 3 if they need to be shared with other family.
What's ON
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the junior school goes to the hall for jump jam which is a fitness programme where they move to music.
Tuesday: Library at 2:15
Thursday: Steam puddings will be available for lunchtime. The cost is $1.50c. Can the children please have any orders named and in an envelope. We will order them in the morning just as we do for sausage sizzle.
Friday: Last Friday we were not able to see the DVD as there were active board issues. The children had fun doing their own thing in class. Therefore this Friday we will have the DVD as the active board issues will be fixed.
I will be pasting a maths sheet in the front of your child's home book by the end of the week. This will tell you what knowledge your child is learning at school so you can reinforece it at home, driving in the car etc. Please any chance of adding or taking away numbers as you go about your everyday life. It is important they know what 'I more than' and 'one less than' are with numbers up to 10, then 20 and then 100.

Literacy
We are talking about reading with expression and the punctuation. For example, when we see speech marks we use our talking voices. This all helps with meaning.
Please work on this when your child reads at night. The more books they read from their book bag at night the better readers they will be. It's good if they read the same books each night as they will become more fluent and practice strategies to solve tricky words.
Putting sounds together quickly in words helps with fluency which is important if they are to understand, retell and answer questions about the story.
Below are some reading machines which help illustrate how sounds are put together to make a word. Please play this with your child over the week. Thanks. What you do really does make a difference.
I hope you all have a great week and if there is anything you need to ask or discuss my door is always open.
